Summary: ProTab stores all your data locally on your device only.
We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data with any server or third party.
1. Overview
ProTab ("the Extension") is a browser productivity tool for Google Chrome. This Privacy Policy
explains what information the Extension handles, how it is stored, and your rights concerning
that information.
2. Data We Collect and Store
ProTab stores the following data exclusively in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local):
- Tasks / Todos: Task text, priority, and completion status that you create.
- Saved Tab Sessions: Tab titles, URLs, and favicons of browser sessions you explicitly save.
- Pomodoro Settings & State: Timer durations, session count, and current timer state.
- Time Tracking Statistics: Aggregate time spent on each domain per day (e.g., "github.com: 45 minutes").
- Focus Mode Settings: Whether focus mode is enabled and your list of blocked site domains.
- Quick Links: Link titles, URLs, and icons you configure.
- Appearance Settings: Theme, wallpaper preference, and display name you enter.
3. How Data Is Stored
All data is stored using the browser's built-in chrome.storage.local API, which
stores data on your local device only. This data never leaves your browser and
is never transmitted to any external server, cloud service, or third party.
4. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do NOT collect personally identifiable information (PII).
- We do NOT track your browsing history or full URLs — only domain names for time tracking.
- We do NOT use analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting services.
- We do NOT use advertising networks or tracking pixels.
- We do NOT make any network requests to external servers.
- We do NOT sync data across devices.
5. Permissions Usage
ProTab requests the following Chrome permissions, used solely for the features described:
- tabs: To list, save, and restore browser tab sessions.
- storage: To persist your settings, todos, and sessions locally.
- alarms: To trigger Pomodoro timer completion notifications.
- notifications: To display timer completion alerts.
- declarativeNetRequest: To redirect blocked sites to our focus reminder page when Focus Mode is active.
- webNavigation: To track tab navigation for time statistics.
- scripting: To inject a minimal content script for page visibility tracking.
- host_permissions (<all_urls>): Required for the content script and site blocking features to work on all websites.
6. Third-Party Services
ProTab uses Google's favicon service (https://www.google.com/s2/favicons) to display
website icons in the stats and sessions views. This service may receive the domain name of
websites you have visited in order to return the appropriate icon. This is a standard, widely-used
browser feature. No personal data is included in these requests.
7. Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any user data with any third parties whatsoever.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
All data is stored locally and remains on your device until you choose to delete it.
You can clear all ProTab data at any time via:
- The Data Management section in ProTab Settings (Options page).
- Uninstalling the ProTab extension from Chrome, which removes all associated local storage.
9. Children's Privacy
ProTab is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data
from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date above.
Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or ProTab's data practices, please open an
